Net Energy Metering (NEM) is a solar incentive program in Malaysia that allows consumers who install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on their premises to offset their electricity bills by exporting surplus solar-generated electricity back to the grid. The program is designed to encourage the adoption of solar energy and support Malaysia’s renewable energy goals. Here’s how Net Energy Metering works in Malaysia:
  1. Installation: A consumer installs a solar PV system on their premises (e.g., residential, commercial, or industrial properties).
  2. Electricity generation: The solar PV system generates electricity during daylight hours. The consumer uses this electricity to power their property, reducing the amount of electricity drawn from the grid.
  3. Surplus energy: If the solar PV system produces more electricity than the consumer needs at a particular time, the surplus energy is exported back to the grid.
  4. Metering: A bi-directional meter (also known as a smart meter or import-export meter) is installed to measure both the electricity consumed from the grid and the surplus electricity exported back to the grid.
  5. Billing: The consumer’s electricity bill is calculated based on the net electricity usage, which is the difference between the electricity consumed from the grid and the electricity exported back to the grid. This means that consumers only pay for the net amount of electricity used, reducing their overall electricity bills.
  6. Credit: In case the solar PV system exports more electricity to the grid than it consumes in a billing period, the surplus will be credited to the consumer’s account and can be used to offset future bills.
The Net Energy Metering program in Malaysia offers an attractive opportunity for businesses and homeowners to save on electricity costs and contribute to a more sustainable energy future. By installing a solar PV system under the NEM program, you can benefit from the savings generated by solar energy and the ability to offset your electricity bills with surplus solar-generated electricity.
Yes, there is some maintenance required for solar installations, but it’s generally minimal and easy to manage. The good news is that solar panels have no moving parts, which makes them more durable and less prone to breakdowns compared to other types of energy systems.
Here are some common maintenance tasks associated with solar installations:
  1. Cleaning: Solar panels should be cleaned periodically to remove dust, dirt, and debris that can accumulate on the surface and reduce their efficiency. Depending on your location and environment, cleaning may be required anywhere from a few times a year to monthly. In some cases, natural rainfall can help keep the panels clean.
  2. Inspections: Regular inspections should be carried out to ensure the solar system is functioning correctly and to identify any potential issues early on. Visual inspections can be done annually or semi-annually, depending on the system size and complexity.
  3. Component maintenance: Although solar panels are durable, other system components, such as inverters, wiring, and mounting structures, may require maintenance or replacement over time. Inverters typically have a lifespan of 10-15 years, so you may need to replace them during the solar system’s life.
As part of our comprehensive service, we provide ongoing support and maintenance for your solar installation. We’ll not only help you set up a suitable maintenance schedule but also offer remote monitoring and diagnostics to quickly address any issues that may arise. By keeping your solar system well-maintained, you can ensure its optimal performance, longevity, and return on investment.
Solar panel warranties typically range from 20 to 25 years, while warranties for other components like inverters are 5 years with an option to extend up to 10 years. We’ll provide detailed warranty information for all components used in your solar installation in our proposal.
Solar PV systems, when properly designed and installed, should not negatively affect the quality of your electricity supply. In fact, solar installations are generally compatible with sensitive equipment, as they produce clean and stable power.
However, it’s essential to work with an experienced and reputable solar provider, like our company, to ensure that the solar system is designed and installed correctly to maintain the quality of your electricity supply. Here are some measures we take to ensure compatibility with sensitive equipment:

  4. Professional installation: Our skilled technicians will carefully install and test your solar PV system to ensure that it is properly integrated with your existing electrical infrastructure and that it meets all applicable safety and performance standards.
  5. Monitoring and maintenance: We provide ongoing monitoring and maintenance services to ensure that your solar system operates at peak performance and to quickly address any issues that may arise, minimizing any potential impact on your electricity supply.
The cost of a solar system depends on factors such as system size, installation complexity, and the type of solar panels used. We provide a customized quote based on your specific requirements and an analysis of your electricity usage patterns.
We will usually require some further information, and possibly a site visit in order to draft a proposal for you. The information that we require are :
  1. Your average monthly utility (TNB) bill amount
  2. Your Available Roof Space
  3. Your Roof Type
  4. Site Ownership – Do you own the building?
  5. Copy of your latest 3 months TNB bill
Above are the preliminary information required to draft our first proposal. Subsequently we will need to perform a site survey to determine the suitability of your roof, and the type of electrical supply your building has.
Once we have this information, I can give you a better understanding of the potential energy savings, the size of the solar system required, and how our solutions can ultimately benefit your business.
Grid Connected Solar PV Systems generally do not work during a blackout. This is in line with the Energy Commission’s guidelines in ensuring the safety of the utility workers, which requires the system to shut down within a specific timeframe (usually in milliseconds) when the grid power goes off. This feature is called “Anti-Islanding”.
However, if maintaining power during a blackout is crucial for your facility or home, we do offer options for backup electricity supply during blackouts with the addition of an Energy Storage System paired with your Solar PV System. This is done by integrating battery storage which can store excess solar energy generated during the day to be used during power outages.
It is important to decide if this feature is important to you as the cost impact of adding Battery Storage to your Solar PV system is significant, and would prolong your ROI period.
When there is insufficient sunlight, such as during cloudy days, rain, or at night, the solar panels’ energy production will be reduced or not generate power at all. However, this doesn’t mean that you will be without electricity supply. In a grid-tied solar system, when solar production is insufficient, your facility will automatically draw electricity from the grid to meet your energy needs.
In this way, you will always have a reliable power supply, seamlessly switching between solar-generated electricity and grid electricity based on the solar system’s output. The solar system’s primary purpose is to offset your electricity consumption and reduce your energy costs, not to eliminate your connection to the grid entirely.
Regardless of the solar system setup, our goal is to ensure that your facility has a reliable electricity supply while maximizing the use of clean, renewable solar energy to reduce your energy costs and environmental impact.
